First State Bank of the Florida Keys partnered with the Military Affairs Committee (MAC), Navy League, City Officials and citizens of Key West in providing a warm welcome for USS Key West commanding officer Curtis Duncan and crew members.
Commander Duncan and his crew were the star attraction in this year’s Veterans Day parade on the custom built USS Key West submarine float constructed by members of the MAC and spearheaded by Ron Demes.
First State Bank presented Commander Duncan with a custom beverage holder, known as a “koozie”, with the inscription “USS Key West-Thank You”. The Bank shipped a supply of the custom koozies to the entire crew of the mighty USS Key West in appreciation of their service.
“First State Bank of the Florida Keys, in partnership with the Military Affairs Committee and Navy League, has been a proud supporter of our military for over 56 years,” said Don Lanman, Senior Vice President & MAC member. “The Bank’s historic dedication and commitment to military service members is a reflection of our sincere appreciation for their service to our country.”
While in Key West, Commander Duncan made presentations to community leaders from MAC and the Sunrise Rotary, plus joined his crew for visits to KWHS, Sigsbee Charter and Mary Immaculate schools. The crew also contributed to local community service projects including attending a brick dedication at the Sculpture Garden, visiting the USS Key West addition to the Military Memorial in Mallory Square and laying sod at Sigsbee Charter School.
