Samsung Pay™ Frequently Asked Questions

What is Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with your suppported Samsung device by holding your device near a contactless terminal at a participating merchant. Samsung Pay comes preloaded as shortcut on newer devices. If your device doesn’t come with the shortcut, simply go to Apps to select and install the Samsung Pay app.

Is Samsung Pay free?

Yes it is free to use Samsung Pay with your First State Bank debit card. Of course, standard phone, data, and messaging rates apply. 

How do I add my First State Bank debit card to Samsung Pay? *Note - Debit card must be active to enroll.

Access the Samsung Pay app and create a Samsung account to link to Samsung Pay. Touch “Start” and agree to the terms and conditions. Next touch “Use Fingerprint” to utilize fingerprint verification or create a 4-digit Samsung Pay PIN code. Touch “add card” and place your card in the viewing frame for recognition or enter your card information manually. Follow the remaining prompts to verify your card and complete enrollment.

How do I make my First State Bank debit card my default card in Samsung Pay?

There is no default card setting in Samsung Pay. The most recently used, viewed, or added card will display.

How do I make an in-store payment with Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay uses Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology that sends a magnetic signal from your device to the merchant terminal just like swiping the card. As such, it is accepted at nearly all terminals.

To make a purchase with your device, just follow these steps:

     1. Open Samsung Pay and swipe up.

     2. Select your First State Bank debit card.

     3. Place your finger on the Home key or touch Enter PIN to verify your identity.

     4. Hold the back of your device against the payment terminal.

Is Samsung Pay safe?

Yes. Samsung does not store any personal, transactional, or payment information on the device or its servers.  Samsung Pay stores only the digital card number (token) provided by First State Bank’s payment network, which can only be converted back to a card number when it reaches the payment network. And, you still enjoy all of your debit card benets including Zero Liability protection against fraudulent purchases.

What do I do if my device is lost or stolen?

Your payment information is not accessible without your fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN. For added security, the Samsung Find My Mobile service can remotely lock or erase your payment cards in Samsung Pay. Alternatively, you can choose to erase your entire device and/or removable storage. When you lock Samsung Pay using Find My Mobile, all payments will be disabled on the device. If you locate your device, you can quickly unlock your cards by authenticating your identity by scanning your fingerprint or entering your Samsung Pay PIN.


How do I return an item?

The return process is the same as with any other return.  You would follow the same steps to complete the return as you did to make the purchase. Some merchants may require to “see” the physical card or may require you to provide the last 4 digits of your digital account number.  You can find your digital account number in your Samsung Pay app.

Can I get cash back using Samsung Pay?

It depends on the merchant. If a transaction is declined with cash back, you may have to try again for just the purchase price.

Can I use Samsung Pay internationally?

If your debit card is approved for use in the country you are visiting, you should be able to use Samsung Pay.

Can I see my recent transactions in Samsung Pay?

Yes. Transactions made with Samsung Pay are available to view for one month from the time of purchase. The transactions are kept separate and listed under each payment card. Additionally, a push notication with transaction details will be sent to your device after each purchase.

Do I need to have an active Internet connection to use Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay does not require an active Internet connection when making a purchase, but does require an active Internet connection when adding or removing a payment card and to download transaction history.  You can connect via a Wi-Fi network or using your mobile data connection. (Standard data rates apply.)

 

What do I do if my debit card that’s in Samsung Pay is lost or stolen?

If your actual debit card has been lost, misplaced, or stolen, contact First State Bank immediately. Samsung Pay will show your card to be invalid if you have cancelled your card with First State Bank. Your new debit card will then need to be added into Samsung Pay.

How do I add my fingerprint as a verication method?

Place your finger on the home key until you feel a vibration. Repeat, moving your finger slightly each time to record the entire print, until you reach 100%. Touch OK to unlock your device using your fingerprint.

Does Samsung Pay use near field communication (NFC) technology?

Samsung Pay uses either NFC or MST (Magnetic SecureTransmission) to send payment information to the terminal. The transaction is seamless, whether using NFC or MST, allowing for a better user experience.
